Slow News Day

Slow news here at Salt and Ice. Working on polishing a couple of things. Still looking for Mandelshtam. Trying to get my head around the Blue Jays suddenly increasing the payroll budget to $70 million, effective immediately if they can find anyone via free agency or trade worth spending the money on. Might have some thoughts on that by tomorrow.

Here's a name for you.....Motorboat Jones....formerly of the Reds chain if I remember correctly....banged the gong of the babyBlueJays from Lethbridge repeatedly a few years back if I remember correctly.

Then again, not sure I can remember anything correctly twice, or even three times, in a row....sheesh.

I don't remember Motorboat Jones, and I can't find any record of him. A google search on the name turns up a Michael Jordan commercial.

I remember Motorboat Jones playing for the Greensboro Hornets in the late 80's or early 90's. Can't find anything about him on the internet either.

All I've been able to find out is that he possibly played for the Cedar Rapids Reds in 1991, and may have stolen 26 bases that seasons. I'm still looking for more information.

If you find out anything, send it my way will you?

Thanks.

He was a speedster who played a few seasons for the Winston-Salem Spirits, who were then the single-A affiliate for the Reds. The team is now known as the Winston-Salem Warthogs and they are the single-A affiliate for the White Sox. I recall his nickname (as if "Motorboat" weren't a good enough one already) was "M-boat" because the cheap scoreboard then at Winston-Salem's Ernie Shore Field only had room to spell out "M-boat Jones" when he came to bat. I don't think he ever played for Greensboro, but as Winston-Salem is near Greensboro, that might be the source of the confusion. Or perhaps he did play for the Hornets as well, but I don't think so.
