Beautiful... what a wonderful voice!

I just pulled out my worn copy of Seamus Heaney: Selected Poems 1966-1987 and reread the poem with the voice fresh in mind. It seems once I hear a voice read a poem it takes on yet another dimension - a voice, the actual speaking of a poem, adds to a poem's density somehow. I, of course, read poems aloud, but this deepening of which I speak seems to require someone else speaking the poems to me. Thanks to you, I think I'll spend the morning in this book.

Although I'd written about this on my site previously, hearing it read by the poet for the first time renewed my love of this poem.
Thanks.

Thanks, b, enjoy that book.
Loren, that's actually me reading the poem. I'd love to hear Heaney read it, but since I couldn't find a clip of him doing it (my first thought was to find one and link to it) I decided I'd just do it myself. I've glad you liked it.
Well, that suggests Loren might not have the best ear for accents, now doesn't it?
Still, I appreciate hearing the poem, one of the few times I've actually thought that audioblogging added to, rather than detracted from, a blog entry.
Thank you.
I think that, used sparingly, audio blogging could be kept to a high standard. I intend to do more of it, now and then, but almost always in conjuntion with a text post.
