I think you are right. I have been working with a friend who has Guillain-Barre syndrome (a type of paralysis caused by eating infected food). The immune system attacks the campylobacter bacteria and it also eats holes in the myelin sheath. Most people regain their ability to walk, etc. from this illness. The holes in the myelin have to be filled in for the person to regain their muscular control.
